He was worth his weight in gold when we embarked on our house buying journey. He made our nightmare situation turn into a fast, informed and efficient - successful process right up to attaining/closing our house goals. From the very beginning he made us feel comfortable and well taken care of despite this being our first home buying experience as well as a non - traditional hurried search. The landlord we were going to eventually purchase from had a family tragedy and needed the home we were settled in back. It was as unexpected for her as it was for us during the winter holidays no less and we didn’t have a lot of time to find another place to rent in the skyrocketing Portland rental market. We had been hearing and experiencing through our friends the cut throat manner of Portland landlords, we weren’t about ready to go back to the doubt/ financial stress of renting from a stranger after having been settled for so long, only to get our rent hiked or have the building sold and demolished in a matter of time. We were up and moving with a plan as well as Harlan’s team of hand picked professionals: form an amazing mortgage broker to a trusted inspector and even a sewer scope specialist. We also went with an insurance agent he suggested. Harlan is well connected with like minded professionals that care about their clients well being and providing excellent service. Harlan made it clear that he always looks into properties as though he were looking for the home for his own family to spend the rest of their lives. Through out the whole process we really felt that we were in good and trust worthy hands. He represents and defends the interests of his clients right up to closing / beyond. He is always fast to respond and works very hard each day to meet your needs as well as explain along the way. At no point did we feel in the dark. We felt like we were getting coached and educated every step of the way. We learned so much. My partner and I even sat in on a class, yes a class - an actual PCC class - that Harlan and the mortgage broker taught together. It was the most informative class that I’ve ever sat in on. Each future home owner was given reading material and easy to understand outlines. We gained so much confidence and piece of mind through that class. It was really great to see two professionals that care so much about their community that they take time out of their rigorous schedules to teach a Home Buying class. I am a true believer in the importance of an excellent realtor. Harlan’s up to date knowhow of codes and the housing market made for smooth sailing through some of the hairiest parts of home buying.
